Online trading platform Plus500 has become an official sponsor of Australian rugby union outfit the ACT Brumbies, who play in the southern hemisphere’s preeminent club competition, Super Rugby.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Canberra team will be officially known as the Plus500 Brumbies and the company’s logo will feature on the front of their jerseys for the 2017/18 season. Furthermore, Plus 500 will enjoy a strong brand presence at the Brumbies’ home, the GIO Stadium.

The online trading platform for retail investors is the second brokerage to sign an Australian sports sponsorship in recent weeks, following the path of a deal for the Western Sydney Wanderers.

The financial terms of the one-year deal were not released.

“We are honoured to be partnering with such an esteemed rugby team as the Brumbies, which has established a strong pedigree over the last 20 years,” said Asaf Elimelech, chief executive of Plus500. “The Brumbies is a natural fit for us as Australia represents one of our key markets, while the team shares a winning mentality and mutual passion for striving for success.

“This partnership with a top Australian Super Rugby team that plays in the premier global rugby union club competition, together with our existing partnership with Atletico Madrid in football, extends our strategy of increasing our brand recognition and expanding our customer base globally.”

The ACT Brumbies, who are coached by former Australia fly-half Stephen Larkham, finished fourth in the Super Rugby regular season. They were knocked out by New Zealand’s Highlanders in the first round of the play-offs.

Plus500 has jumped on board and it is believed the Brumbies will boast the most lucrative sponsorship jersey in Australian Super Rugby next year.
